WindHarvest Commissions 480MW North Sea Offshore Wind Farm Ahead of Schedule
WindHarvest Energy has commissioned the 480MW Nordstern offshore wind farm in the German Bight, delivering first power six weeks ahead of the contracted schedule.
WindHarvest Energy today confirmed that first power has been delivered from the Nordstern offshore wind farm, a 480MW project located 62 kilometres off the German coastline in the North Sea — six weeks ahead of the contracted commissioning schedule.
The 96-turbine array, built in partnership with Vestas and installed by Saipem’s offshore construction fleet, will generate approximately 1.8 TWh of electricity annually, supplying the equivalent of 500,000 German households. Electricity is sold under a 15-year contract to German grid operator TenneT.
“Commissioning six weeks early on a project of this scale is a tribute to the professionalism of every contractor and subcontractor involved,” said WindHarvest CEO Jürgen Strauss. “Nordstern is now the third-largest offshore wind farm in the German Bight and our flagship asset.”
Construction employed a peak workforce of 1,800 across the marine and onshore balance-of-plant phases. The project was financed through a consortium of 14 banks led by KfW IPEX-Bank.
